One of Those Recap Posts

JUN 6, 2008

It’s late, I’m tired, I’ve been working hard for my money… so hard for my honey… (1 tiny word changed but can you name that tune? ;) )

So I’ll do one of those recap kind of posts… tell you all the little stuff that aren’t usually big enough for their own posts.

My Kaylabear is registered for a reading clinic in July at the University nearby. She’ll be tested first and then receive one-on-two tutoring for 2 weeks. We’re excited. She has come so far with her reading in the last 2 years – going from not even reading “cat” to reading (for fun even!) chapter books! I think this reading clinic will be the last stepping stone to getting her fully at grade level in reading.

Her new math curriculum arrived today. We’re switching from Bob Jones math to Math-U-See. Bob Jones just wasn’t really helping her to understand the concepts of math. Math-U-See has much praise for helping kids understand the why and how of math. It was also the curriculum that was highly recommended for ADHD kids. I told Kaylabear that she was starting on it on Monday. That went over well like a lead balloon. Regardless, we already took too much time off this past year so we’re doing this through the summer. At least it is just reading and math and not all of the homeschool subjects, right?

My little Strawberry is growing like a weed. Finally (!) we are fully, 100% potty-trained! We even go on big potties in public places! Whoot! She still asks… ok, more like strenuously insists… on “Momma Time” (nursing) but that is down to only once a day. I do believe I can safely say we have recovered from the trauma of Joshua’s birth and the resulting regression.

Her vocabulary is enlarging more every day. But we haven’t taken her in to a speech therapist for the primary reason that I see her improving everyday – adding words upon words to her speech. As I watch her, I see that her brain development is far eclipsing every other development area right now. This girl is smart! She’s orderly, anal-retentive, and already shows some OCD characteristics. It scares me that in those things she is so much like me! Yikes! But you know what else I see? A sense of humor, fun-loving personality… and she’s is so darn cute!

Joshua just yesterday broke out a 3rd tooth! (upper right for records sake) He’s really trucking along now: standing without assistance for many minutes at a time, crawling as fast as I can walk, and climbing over/on anything in his path! And the boy is allllllll boy! He will play with just about any toy lying around but when he gets to a ball that is on the floor, he’ll stop and pat that ball, giggling all the while. It is as if his male instincts kick in telling him that ball was meant for HIM! OK… never mind the fact that it actually belongs to one of his sisters. LOL But he is all fun. Easy going personality… such a nice change from my 2 melodramatic girls!

Hubby is starting the whole traveling thing again. That means I’ll probably get pregnant soon again! LOL

If you don’t know the story behind that statement I’ll explain… for the last 2 kids conceived, everytime I found out that I was pregnant, hubby was heavily traveling for his job. When I gave birth, “suddenly” his traveling would dramatically decrease. Coincidence? I think not! So when he starts a new program and it ramps up where he has to travel again, we always joke that surely I’ll get pregnant again! It must be those reunions after a long business trip, huh? LOL

Oh! And if you are thinking, “Well just use birth control! That will take care of that!” We don’t do the bc thing… it is against our personal beliefs. Yea… I know we could have 10 kids… if that is what God blesses us with, then we’re sure we’ll be able to handle that. After all, God doesn’t give anyone any more than they can deal with. :)

Anyway, he’ll be going to Mexico and Japan. Oh, yea! You can bet I’ll have my “have to buy” list ready for his Japanese trip!

I’ve still been working many hours but that’s ok. It means a bigger paycheck which we can certainly use. The project ends soon anyway, and the paychecks will go down. I did take a mini break this afternoon to work on post-processing some photos. I was able to finally get around the red-tape for qualifying for a homeschoolers discount and get Photoshop CS3 at the educator’s discount. So I now officially own PS! (Yay!) Bad news is I was naughty and purchased a few actions: Itty Bitty 52 Action set, LilyBlue’s Flowers & Chocolate action sets, and Michelle Black’s Cross-Process v2.0 action set. Um… yea. This coming from someone who said only 6 months ago, “I have my own stubborn opinion about Photoshopping pictures but that’s for another post.” Now look at me: I’m a Photoshopping fool! LOL

Of course, now that I have Photoshop and all of these fun actions to try out, I haven’t had time to photograph anything. Go figure! I did post-process some photos from April & May (like this one).

Other than that, not much up with me. I think I’ll join Lauren (Mental P Mama) in losing some weight. Lord knows I need to and I need some motivation! I’ve got 25 more pounds to lose before I have the pregnancy weight off. Sad thing is now I have no clothes to wear… the preggo stuff falls off now but I can’t zip up the jeans. My jiggly tummy gets in the way! And I’m not getting any younger – I’m almost 39 – so these pounds aren’t just melting off anymore. No one wants me to go around without bottoms on despite the restaurants with signs that say “No shirt, no shoes, no service”!

But my goal is to lose 50 pounds total: 25 from the pregnancy and 25 from before that just hung around for fun. This next week, I’m going to work on upping my water intake. Right now, I drink… 0 glasses a day. Yea, you read right! 0 glasses. I am a Pepsi-holic. So I am going to up that to 4 glasses a day and before I can ddrink a Pepsi, I must drink a glass of water.

Hmmm. Guess that is about it… So much for a “short” recap post, huh?

  • Good for you! And those Pepsi’s add up very fast…get on the water wagon girlfriend, you’ll feel better instantly!

  • Wow. Lots of information in this post, Christine. I went back and read about Strawberry’s regression, too, back in November. Wow again.

If you start drinking a water instead of a pepsi, you’ll be well on your way to losing that weight!

And I love all the actions. I’m almost mad at myself for buying the Kevin Kubota set that I ended up getting. These look so much more cool! Plus, the KK was mostly B&W. I don’t know what I was thinking and should have been drinking water instead of the wine I was drinking!! Live and Learn . . .

BTW, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! Photoshop CS3!!! You’ll be rockin’ and rollin’. (Had to send this from work because I’m in time out for an entire month and I hate Wild Blue!)

  • Yeah I drink about 0 too. I have been able to cut out soda but replaced it with passion tea lemonade and vitamin water. Baby steps, right? I have 75 to lose. It sucks.

So excited about your PS purchase! yay! Also we just gave up on MUS – I could have passed on some stuff to you!I have some problems with it that I hadn’t anticipated. Let me know if you want details.
